Connexus Technology Differentiators
Connexus is a mechanical interference fit connection. Like modern steel structures, it utilizes circumferential elastic strain in the bell to apply a compressive force to the pin, resulting in high contact stresses and high frictional forces.
The joints made with the Connexus technology have fatigue capacity comparable to welded joints. Connexus MIF joints are suitable for many combinations of internal and external stresses and can be designed to meet pipeline design codes such as ASME B31.3, ASME, B31.4, and ASME B31.8.
The Connexus pin/bell interface creates an area of double-wall thickness. It becomes the strongest part of a pipeline in the hoop direction, minimizing circumferential stresses due to internal pressure.
The Connexus MIF system is backed by full-scale testing of 16″ OD pipe. MPS Global has completed laboratory testing of 16″ connections to verify burst strength, axial loading capacity, bending capacity and fatigue capacity.
The end prep and joining process of the Connexus process does not compromise pipe metallurgy or create a heat affected zone. There is no external heat input required for preparation or assembly.

Connexus Benefits
- Widest range of diameters (4”-16”) in this technology.
- Pipe retains original metallurgical properties (no loss of strength or brittleness) with no heat-affected zone.
- In the circumferential direction, the joint becomes strongest part of pipeline with a double-wall (minimizing hoop stresses in the joint).
- Less than 1 minute per joint connection.
- No X-Rays required.
- Assembly along right-of-way with joint to joint method, or by pulling assembled pipe.
- No internal coating repair required (100% Holiday-Free).
- Flexibility in location of end preparations (pipe-mill or pipe-yard).
Connexus Epoxy Seal
- Seals the joint at the end of the pin - adding an additional layer or protection.
- Lubricates during insertion and prevents galling.
- Full-service cure within 24 hours.
- Inert when cured.
- Flexible allowing for contraction and expansion with the steel. The process ensures that the joint remains sealed regardless of temperature fluctuations.
- Available in different environment-specific formulations (cold, tropical, desert)
