- Pipe End Preparation
The swedging of one end of a pipe (referred to as the pin) and expanding of the other end (referred to as the bell) of the same pipe.
- Pipeline Assembly
Specialized joining machinery, hydraulic force and proprietary epoxy is used to connect the pin and belled ends.
Our Process
Connexus is a high-performance mechanical interference connection replacing conventional welding for gas and liquids pipelines. MIF technology is universally accepted to improve construction speed and lower project costs. What sets MPS Global apart is our ability to connect pipe joints ranging from 4″ to 16″ in diameter, coated or uncoated.
The Connexus process is simple. It begins with end preparation of the pipe which can take place on location, at the pipe-mill, coating plant or any desired location. The pipe end preparation does not negatively affect the metallurgy of the pipe, nor does it add time to the project. Once pipe is delivered onsite and staged along the right-of-way, the pin and belled ends are joined using hydraulic force aided by a proprietary epoxy. The pipeline is ready for hydrostatic testing once the specified epoxy cure time has been met for all connections.
On average, it takes less than a minute to assemble a single connection. No welding or weld seam inspection equipment, like x-ray equipment, is required for assembly. The MPS Global Connexus MIF technology can operate in most weather conditions or terrain.

Technology

Connexus Mechanical Interference
The interference, metal-to-metal fit, is achieved by inserting a carefully expanded belled end into a tapered pin end.

Connexus Epoxy Seal
The epoxy seal created when one pipe is inserted into the other creates a flexible, airtight and corrosive resistant wall at the connection point of the joint.

Connexus Process
The interference fit is responsible for the axial load carrying capacity of the joint, relying on contact stresses between the pin and bell for strength.
